One of the most common questions we receive is whether a bouquet has to be fresh in order to be preserved.
The answer is no.
At Pressed Botanicals, we can preserve both fresh and already-dried flowers — including bouquets that have been sitting in a vase, box, or closet for years.
Fresh Flowers
Fresh bouquets are ideal for preservation because we can begin pressing them soon after the wedding or event.
Once your flowers arrive at our studio, we carefully take apart the bouquet, prepare each flower individually, and place them into our presses. After several weeks of pressing and drying, we begin the color-correction and design process before creating your finished frame.
What About a Bouquet That Is Already Dried?
Already-dried flowers can still be beautifully preserved.
We have a special process for working with dried bouquets where we carefully rehydrate the flowers and press them again. This allows us to flatten and prepare the flowers for pressed floral artwork much like we would with a fresh bouquet.
Once the flowers have been rehydrated and pressed, we can also color correct them to bring back some of the tones that may have faded naturally over time.
Your Bouquet Doesn’t Have to Be Recent
We can work with bouquets that are:
- One year old
- Five years old
- Ten years old
- Even 20+ years old
Whether your flowers are from a recent wedding or have been saved for decades, we can use a similar preservation process to the one we use for fresh flowers.
Every older bouquet will have its own level of fragility and natural aging, so the finished piece will still reflect the character of the original flowers.
Color Correction Can Bring Your Flowers Back to Life
Flowers naturally lose color as they dry. Whites may yellow, pinks can fade, greenery may become muted, and deeper colors can become less vibrant.
Our color-correction process allows us to carefully restore some of that lost color while still keeping the flowers looking natural.
If you have photographs of the original bouquet, we always recommend sending them to us. Wedding photos are especially helpful because they give us a reference for the original colors.
Don’t Throw Away an Old Bouquet
If you’ve been holding onto a dried bouquet because you weren’t sure what to do with it, it may still be possible to turn those flowers into something you can display in your home.
Wedding bouquets, memorial flowers, anniversary flowers, and other sentimental arrangements can all be meaningful candidates for preservation — even years later.
